Maersk ship receives 100% ethanol in Spain
A methanol dual-fuel container ship, owned by Danish shipping company A.P. Moller-Maersk, was bunkered with an unspecified quantity of 100% ethanol (E100) at the Port of Barcelona in Spain.

Maersk did not disclose where the fuel was sourced from, but the stem was delivered to the Antonia Maersk by the Repsol-chartered bunker barge Bahia Candela on 9 July.
Maersk is exploring the use of ethanol on its methanol-capable vessels to increase fuel flexibility. It has already tested E100 on another of its methanol dual-fuel vessels, Laura Maersk.
“Ethanol is one of several pathways we are exploring to diversify our low-emission fuel portfolio, with the ambition of enabling rapid uptake and helping create a new liquid marine fuel market,” the liner said.
It will also work with port authorities and other relevant partners to help establish bunkering infrastructure and standards to “support ethanol bunkering at key ports," it added.
