The 350-meter-long vessel, A.P. Møller, is part of a series of 18 large dual-fuel methanol vessels scheduled for delivery by 2025. It is currently set to embark on its maiden voyage from Asia to Europe, Maersk said.

The 16,592 TEU vessel was built at the Hyundai Heavy Industries' shipyard in South Korea's Ulsan and is the ninth vessel in Maersk's fleet capable of running on methanol.

In July 2023, Maersk completed the inaugural methanol bunkering for its first methanol-capable vessel, Laura Maersk, in Singapore in collaboration with the support of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.

“Lower emission methanol can reduce the GHG emissions by at least 65% compared to conventional fossil fuels such as bunker oil (depending on the feedstock and production process of the methanol, calculated on a life cycle basis),” the shipping and logistics giant said.
