The methanol dual-fuel vessel, Antonia Maersk, was bunkered with an unspecified amount of methanol at the Malaysian port. The operation marked the first methanol bunkering in the port.

The supplier of the fuel has not been disclosed by PTP.

PTP is a joint venture between Malaysian utility company MMC Corporation and Dutch port operating firm APM Terminals. Located at the mouth of the River Pulai in southwestern Johor, Malaysia, the port is strategically positioned near the Straits of Johor, which separates Malaysia and Singapore, and the busy Strait of Malacca.

“This successful methanol bunkering operation demonstrates PTP’s readiness and capability to handle alternative marine fuels, paving the way for future trials and pilots of diverse and emerging fuel solutions,” PTP’s chairman Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh said.
