These tests are being conducted at its Research Centre Copenhagen (RCC) laboratory. The two-stroke engine's combustion process will be documented and evaluated through additional tests over the coming weeks and months, MAN ES said.

The first commercial variant of its dual-fuel two-stroke ammonia engine is expected to be delivered to a shipyard by the fourth quarter of next year, MAN ES' principal promotion manager Nikolaos Kourtidis said at a webinar organised by the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS) early this year.

Kourtidis also said that the first ammonia-powered vessel with a MAN ES engine should be sailing by 2025.
