The engine orders were placed by Japan’s Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, which is building three 81,200 dwt capacity bulk carriers for J. Lauritzen.
MAN ES says it is seeing a surge in orders for its two-stroke dual-fuel methanol engines. They can run on both methanol and conventional fuel grades.
With an orderbook of more than 160 methanol engines, MAN ES’ dual-fuelled methanol engine has become the go-to-choice for methanol-fuelled newbuilds, MAN ES’ head of two-stroke business Bjarne Foldager said.
The methanol-powered vessels were ordered by J. Lauritzen earlier this year. Once delivered, the vessels will be chartered to global commodity trader Cargill for a period of at least seven years.
Last week, MAN ES announced plans to launch a dual-fuel version of its existing four-stroke engine by 2026 that will operate on methanol.
