Maran Tankers takes delivery of fourth dual-fuel VLCC
Maran Tankers Management (MTM), a unit of Greek shipping firm Angelicoussis Group, has taken delivery of the final vessel in a series of four dual-fuel Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC).

The 320,500-dwt VLCC, Maran Dione, can run on both LNG and conventional marine fuels.
The company took delivery of its first vessel of the series Antonis I. Angelicoussis in January, followed by Maria A. Angelicoussis in February and Maran Danae in April. All the vessels have been built by South Korean shipbuilding firm Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).
By consuming LNG as fuel, these vessels “can emit up to 50% less carbon dioxide than an equivalent 2008-built VLCC,” MTM claims.
LNG can curb carbon dioxide emissions by about a quarter compared to conventional bunker fuels. But its methane emissions can be 36 times more potent as a greenhouse gas (GHG) compared to carbon dioxide over a century, according to a World Bank study.
