The company has so far ordered 40 LNG-capable vessels for delivery by the end of the decade. This includes six very large crude carriers (VLCCs) which are all scheduled for delivery this year.

MOL has taken delivery of the first of these VLCCs, Energia Viking, and expects the remaining five to follow later this year. Three of the six VLCCs will be chartered to Norwegian energy firm Equinor.

Energia Viking is equipped with two LNG fuel tanks with a combined capacity of more than 10,000-cbm, to allow long-distance voyages and flexible routing, MOL said.

The company has set a self-goal to reach net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, with LNG, methanol and ammonia among its future fuel mix.

As of June 2025, MOL has eight methanol-capable vessels on order, with deliveries scheduled towards 2030.

It has also teamed up with Belgian shipping company CMB Tech to order nine ammonia-capable bulk carriers and chemical tankers.

Three of these will be jointly owned by CMBT and MOL and chartered to MOL for 12 years. The vessels will be built by China’s Qingdao Beihai Shipyard, with deliveries scheduled over the next couple of years.
