MPC Container Ships adds methanol-capable vessel to fleet

The dual-fuel vessel will be deployed in Northern Europe under a seven-year charter with port operator and logistics company DP World.

The vessel DP World Southampton has a dual-fuel engine capable of operating on methanol and is equipped with shore power connectivity, Norwegian shipowner MPC Container Ships (MPCC) said in a LinkedIn post.

The vessel marks another step in its fleet transition towards lower-emission tonnage.

It has been developed in collaboration with DP World, China's Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard, American Bureau of Shipping, Elbdeich Reederei, Nordic Hamburg Shipmanagement and Everllence, MPCC said.

In December 2025, MPCC ordered six 3,700 TEU alternative fuels-ready vessels, which are scheduled for delivery from the second half of 2028.

Earlier in July 2025, MPCC had placed a similar order for four ammonia/methanol-ready vessels.
