MSC partially resumes Suez Canal transits

Swiss shipping major MSC has begun partially restoring Suez Canal transits on a limited number of East–West routes, following a review of security and operational conditions in the Red Sea region.

The revised plan covers the Asia–Mediterranean, Asia–North Europe and India–Mediterranean routes, with the first sailings having commenced on 20 August.

Vessels included in the initial transits are Tina, Anna, Beryl, Josefina and Mischel Cappellini.

The resumption will be phased in on a service-by-service basis. MSC said it will continue to closely monitor regional developments in coordination with relevant authorities and security partners.

The company also said that contingency measures remain in place, allowing for individual voyages to be rerouted, or adjusted, if security conditions deteriorate.
