STR operates a bunker fuel terminal in the Botlek area of the Port of Rotterdam.
It plans to build new storage tanks with a combined capacity of 100,000 cbm, capable of storing biofuels as well as methanol and ethanol.
The facility will be built adjacent to STR’s existing 240,000-cbm fuel oil terminal.
The project "fills the gap of needed infrastructure tailored at the storage and blending of marine fuels,” the company said.
The facility will be able to serve a range of vessels, including bunker barges, according to STR.
The company has not disclosed a timeline for the project but said it is currently working on the permitting process.
