Bunker tanker, Si Jie 21, delivered 325 mt of B24 biofuel stem to Ningbo Ocean’s containership, New Ming Zhou 60.

The operation marked “the first time that China had refueled a container ship with biofuel at an offshore anchorage,” JLC stated.

The B24 marine biofuel comprised a blend of 24% biofuel and 76% conventional low-sulfur fuel oil. The biofuel blend can reduce carbon emissions by 21%, JLC said.

Biofuels play a crucial role in “sustainable economic development and reducing environmental pollution” and aid “shipping companies explore various ways to cope with climate change,” it added.

“Traditional ships can use biofuel without modification, which can not only achieve energy conservation and carbon reduction but is also very convenient for shipowners,” Ningbo Ocean’s deputy general manager Chen Jiating said.

In August, bunker supplier Zhejiang Seaport International Trading announced that it can deliver B24 stems by barge in Zhoushan. The bunker supplier is likely the first physical supplier to offer biofuel for bunkering in mainland China.
