Ammonia bunkers for these vessels will be provided through Azane Fuel Solutions' floating bunkering terminal, and the fuel will be supplied by Yara Clean Ammonia.
Amon has launched a new subsidiary called Amon Offshore for this project. It has already received approval in principle (AiP) from the classification society DNV and preliminary “flag approval” from the Norwegian Maritime Authority.
Development of ammonia-fuelled PSV will help to accelerate maritime decarbonisation, DNV’s segment director for special ships Arnstein Eknes says.
In a recent report, DNV has forecast ammonia to be the preferred fuel choice for green shipping by 2050.
