PSW will design and commission the shore power system, which will have a total capacity of up to 15 megawatts (15 MW).
The project is scheduled for completion in 2025. This will be the second shore power unit that PSW will supply to the port authority, the company said.
Vessels need electricity to run onboard operations and equipment while docked at the port. Shore power supply allows ships to use external energy sources instead of fuel-based power while docked.
This can help reduce a vessel's overall fuel consumption and lower its well-to-wake emissions in the near term, even if it does not have a dramatic impact on global shipping emissions.
