A power train is the system of components that generate and transmit power to propel a vessel.

The project aims to develop technology for reducing emissions from LNG-fuelled powertrains by integrating SOFC with onboard carbon capture systems (OCCS).

It will assess the performance, space, weight, and marine adaptability of an SOFC powertrain with OCCS, while also addressing the infrastructure required for decentralized CO2 collection and transport at ports.

The consortium includes coastal cruise operator Havila Voyages, gas company Molgas Norway, and research firm SINTEF.

The Norwegian Research Council has awarded the project a grant of approximately NOK 5 million (around $475,000) for its two-year duration.
