During the first half of this year the companies will design similar concepts for capesize bulk carriers and very large crude oil carriers (VLCC).
The project will be completed when the actual ship design is achieved, says NYK.
The company aims to start offering the new ammonia-ready vessel to customers from next year, before building the first vessel by 2025.
NYK is currently expanding its LNG fleet, before gradually moving to ammonia or hydrogen. It aims to be net-zero by 2050.
