Oakland port’s emission reduction efforts receive federal funding

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has awarded funding worth $4 million to the Californian port of Oakland to support its emission reduction initiatives.

This funding from the federal government will enable the Oakland port to bring in energy efficient equipment, which will not only benefit air quality within the port but also in the surrounding neighbourhoods.

The port authority, along with its tenant, Eagle Rock Aggregates, will utilise the fund to purchase five heavy-duty electric trucks, an electric street sweeper, an electric pick-up truck, and install electric vehicle chargers.

The zero-emissions vehicles and charging infrastructure are expected to be fully operational by 2025, with the entire project costing an estimated $5.1 million.
