This marked the start of Petronas' LNG bunker tie-up with Tiger Gas.

About 500 mt of LNG was delivered to the world’s largest dual-fuel deck cargo ship, the Tiger Gas-owned Tiger Maanshan, Petronas said. Tiger Gas is Petronas' first Chinese LNG bunker customer.

Petronas and Tiger Gas signed a deal back in 2020 for supply of LNG via ISO tanks to the Chinese market. Petronas started supplying LNG to China from June 2021.

"Today, offshore ship-to-ship LNG bunkering has greatly shortened the turnaround of LNG carrier vessels, laying a solid foundation for a more efficient and greener LNG supply chain," Tiger Group chairman Gerry Wang commented.

In terms of decarbonisation potential, LNG-fuelled vessels emit about 75% of the carbon dioxide that vessels running on conventional oil-based marine fuels do. Methane slip remains a key concern as uncombusted methane has about 28 times higher global warming potential than carbon dioxide over a 100-year period.
