PIL has placed an order for an additional four dual-fuel vessels, taking its total orderbook to eight. The previous order was for four 14,000 TEU vessels.

The vessels will use Swiss engine manufacturer Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) dual fuel engine, than can operate on conventional fuel, LNG and ammonia.

These engines offer improved consumption controls that can reduce methane slip, emissions and fuel consumption, WinGD says.

The vessels will be build by the Chinese shipyard Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.
