Amsterdam-based sustainable aviation fuel maker SkyNRG and bulk liquid storage company Zenith Energy Terminals are the two other companies which are a part of the consortium.

“The UAE aims to play a central role in the emerging green hydrogen economy and this partnership with the Port of Amsterdam and associated players in the green hydrogen space would help position Abu Dhabi as a key hub for green hydrogen development,” UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and chairman of Masdar HE Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber says.

The project will focus on the production of green hydrogen in Abu Dhabi and its exports to the Netherlands, through the Port of Amsterdam, for key European sectors including bunkering. The green fuel will be supplied to bunker buyers via pipeline, truck and barge, the port authority of Amsterdam says.

The port is committed to improving its green hydrogen handling capabilities, it adds.

The collaboration will play a key role in achieving the port’s goal of importing at least 1 million mt/year of green hydrogen, Port of Amsterdam’s chief executive Koen Overtoom says.

In a separate development, last month, Masdar announced the formation of its new green hydrogen business with a goal of producing 1 million mt/year of green hydrogen by 2030.
