Port of Quebec to use GHG rating tool to offer discounts to high-performing vessels
Canada’s Port of Quebec will offer discounted ports fees to arriving ships based on how well they perform in greenhouse gas (GHG) emission tests it has devised using a new tool.

Under its EcoCargo initiative, the port will offer a 30% discount for an A rating, 20% for a B rating, and 10% for a C rating.
The initiative is aimed at driving decarbonisation in the shipping industry through fee reduction incentives, the port authority says in a statement.
The tool, designed by the shipping risk management organisation RightShip, rates vessels on a scale of A to G based on comparative emissions by vessels of a similar size and type.
RightShip is in talks to initiate similar programmes across South America and Asia Pacific.
