Under the agreement, JetGas plans to build a liquefied methane terminal at Muuga Harbour by 2030, featuring up to five storage tanks constructed in stages. The first stage, involving the construction of one storage tank, is scheduled to be completed by late 2027. The terminal will include a connecting pipeline to the quayline.
The facility will enable the company to source larger quantities of bio-LNG from the global market, according to JetGas chairman Janek Parkman.
However, the company has not disclosed if any portion of the bio-LNG will be earmarked for bunkering purposes.
The terminal’s development follows a tender process launched last spring, as noted by Valdo Kalm, chairman of the Port of Tallinn.
Additionally, in September, the port signed an agreement with US-based Protio to produce e-methanol and potentially e-LNG for bunkering operations at Muuga Harbour.
