Port operations unaffected by oil slicks off Tuas Port waters in Singapore

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has announced that oil slicks off Tuas Port waters have not impacted port operations or navigation in Singapore.

MPA along with Singapore’s national agencies - the National Environment Agency (NEA) and JTC Corporation (JTC) - have initiated an investigation into periodic oil slicks off Tuas Port waters.

Initial findings reveal that the source of oil slick is likely to have originated from further inland.

JTC has installed oil booms and CCTV cameras in the region to monitor the scenario. Night patrol has also been deployed. MPA has also deployed regular patrols to monitor the region.

Tuas Port is a container port in Singapore that commenced operations on 1 September 2022. Following its targeted completion in the 2040s, it is expected to have a handling capacity of 65 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), according to the MPA website.
