Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) has been gaining attention lately as several oil and shipping companies are looking to rein in their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
The port will examine the risks and regulations associated with the handling, storage, and transport of captured carbon.
The project has received funding from the Swedish government’s energy unit Swedish Energy Agency and is expected to be completed this year.
“The system must be open to third-party access to further increase cost-effectiveness and the potential for emissions reduction and negative emissions in the long term,” says Ports of Stockholm. It should also promote more regional cooperation around CO2 infrastructure.
