The collaboration will primarily focus on the Tallinn–Stockholm and Paldiski–Kapellskär routes, with efforts directed towards reducing emissions across four ports.

A key objective is to install onshore power supply (OPS) systems for RoPax (roll-on/roll-off passenger) vessels in Paldiski South Harbour and the Port of Kapellskär by 2030, allowing ships to connect to shore power while docked.

As part of the initiative, the Port of Tallinn plans to achieve CO2 emission-free heating and electricity systems at the D-Terminal in Old City Harbour and at Paldiski South Harbour, alongside deploying solar panels. Meanwhile, the Ports of Stockholm are exploring opportunities to expand solar cell installations in Värtahamnen and Kapellskär.

“By working together, we can accelerate the green transition across the Baltic Sea region and make maritime transport cleaner, and more efficient,” said Ports of Stockholm’s chief executive, Magdalena Bosson.

Details regarding specific fuels, technologies, and the overall project timeline have not yet been disclosed.
