Australian energy company Provaris Energy hopes to achieve final Class Approval from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and DNV by the first quarter of next year, after completing the prototype testing.

The two companies will also build a facility in Norway where compressed hydrogen containment tanks will be manufactured for use in Provaris Energy's compressed hydrogen carriers and storage vessels. The plant is scheduled to begin production in mid-2025.

Cost-effective hydrogen transportation

Provaris Energy has designed two compressed gaseous hydrogen carriers, a 26,000-cbm concept called H2Neo and a 120,000-cbm concept called H2Max. Both concepts received approval in principle from ABS last December.

H2Neo is scheduled to begin large-scale shipping of hydrogen in 2026.

It also developed a 26,000-cbm hydrogen storage barge concept called H2Leo, which receivedABS approval in June.

It claims the storage vessel can provide a cost-effective way to store large quantities of hydrogen.

H2Leo will have two separate tanks with a total storage capacity of 300-600 mt of hydrogen, with a potential expansion capacity of 2,000 mt. The construction of the vessel is set to begin in 2025.
