The B20 blend is made up of 20% biodiesel and 80% conventional marine gasoil (MGO), and will be supplied through PS Energy's subsidiary CNC Petroleum.
The biodiesel is produced from used cooking oil and fats. The company claims that its B20 blend can curb greenhouse gas emissions by up to 15% compared to conventional diesel. Apart from the B20 blend, PS Energy also supplies a B7 blend (7% biodiesel and 93% MGO).
Both B7 and B20 biodiesel blends can be used in any ship's diesel engine with little to no modification required, PS Energy says. Engines will generate similar horsepower and torque from biodiesel blends as if they would when running purely on MGO.
PS Energy is also working with French oil major TotalEnergies to expand its distribution network of B7 and B20 blends.
