Singapore bio-bunker sales jump in August, LNG remains stable
Singapore sold approximately 1,800 mt/day of bio-bunkers in August, up from around 1,200 mt/day in July, according to preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
Changes in Singapore alternative fuel sales from July to August:
- Bio-VLSFO sales up from 30,000 mt to 48,000 mt
- Bio-HSFO sales up from 8,000 mt to 9,000 mt
- B100 sales down from 1,400 mt to 800 mt
- LNG sales steady at 59,000 mt
Singapore’s sales of bio-blended bunker fuels rose sharply for the second consecutive month in August, increasing 48% to 57,000 mt, the highest monthly volume since April. Despite the rise, August sales were still around 57% below the 130,000 mt recorded in the same month last year.
Of the total, approximately 48,000 mt was VLSFO blended with a bio component, typically around 24% in Singapore, while the remaining 9,000 mt comprised HSFO blended with biofuel.
From January to August, Singapore’s total biofuel bunker sales stood at 491,000 mt, down substantially from 1.03 million mt during the same period last year.
LNG bunker sales remained broadly stable at 59,000 mt in August. However, cumulative LNG sales for the first eight months of the year reached nearly 436,000 mt, up from 353,000 mt a year earlier.
Meanwhile, B100, or 100% biofuel, bunker sales were recorded for the fifth consecutive month, with around 800 mt sold in August, down from approximately 1,400 mt in July.
There were no methanol bunker sales for the sixth consecutive month, while no ammonia bunker sales have been recorded so far this year.
