Singapore’s bio-bunker sales declined in May, LNG sales hit record highs

June 17, 2026

Singapore sold approximately 1,500 mt/day of bio-bunkers in May, down from around 2,200 mt/day in April, according to preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.

Changes in Singapore alternative fuel sales from April to May:

  • Bio-VLSFO sales down from 49,000 mt to 36,000 mt
  • Bio-LSMGO sales down from 800 mt to nil
  • Bio-HSFO sales down from 18,000 mt to 12,000 mt
  • B100 sales up from 6,500 mt to 13,000 mt
  • LNG sales up from 42,000 mt to 70,000 mt

Singapore’s sales of bio-blended bunker fuels fell sharply for a second straight month in May, declining 29% to their lowest level since January. Total sales dropped to 48,000 mt, down from 68,000 mt in April, and were approximately 66% lower than the 139,000 mt recorded in the same month last year.

Of the total volume sold in May, around 36,000 mt consisted of VLSFO blended with biofuel, typically at a 24% blend ratio in Singapore, while a further 12,000 mt comprised HSFO containing a biofuel component. No sales of bio-blended LSMGO were reported during the month, ending a run of two consecutive months in which the grade recorded sales.

In contrast, LNG bunker sales rebounded strongly after declining for two consecutive months. Sales surged 66% in May to reach a multi-year high of 70,000 mt. Average daily LNG bunker sales increased by roughly 850 mt, reaching 2,300 mt/day. Cumulative LNG bunker sales for the January–May period climbed to nearly 263,000 mt, up from 189,000 mt during the same period a year earlier.

Meanwhile, sales of B100 (100% biofuel) were reported for the third time this year, with approximately 13,000 mt sold in May.

No methanol bunker sales were reported for the third consecutive month, while ammonia bunker sales have yet to be recorded this year.
