Skarv will use the funds to acquire ammonia-powered vessels with a cargo capacity of 4,000 mt each. The vessels will be used for short-haul shipping along the Norwegian coast, from northern Norway and south to the Oslo Fjord, Skarv says.

The vessels' engines will likely be supplied by Wartsila and be among the first four-stroke ammonia engines in the world, Skarv says.

Skarv, a joint venture between Norwegian companies Peak Group and Grieg Edge, will now look to sign firm commercial agreements with its clients and begin the contracting and construction of the ships.
