Slovenia's Port of Koper to cut port dues for less polluting ships

December 28, 2022

Slovenian seaport operator Luka Koper will incentivise greener ships to call at the Port of Koper by lowering port dues from January onwards, joining global efforts to curb the shipping industry’s contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions.

Luka Koper will incentivise ships based on their score on the Environmental Ship Index (ESI), a voluntary project launched by the International Association of Ports and Harbours. The project currently involves 56 ports and 6,840 ships.

From January onwards, ships which score between 30 and 49.9 points on the ESI will get a 5% reduction in the "Port Dues Tariff" from Luka Koper. Ships scoring 50 or more points will get a 10% reduction.
