The green corridor initiative, aligned with the IMO’s ambition, aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from vessels travelling the Singapore–Rotterdam trade route by 20–30% by 2030, compared to 2008 levels.
The port authorities of Singapore and Rotterdam want to “develop and mobilise financial instruments to address the cost barriers associated with using low- and near-zero emission fuels,” the partners said at the Singapore Maritime Week conference.
Green fuels will include green ammonia, bio- and e-methanol, and methane.
The port authorities also plan to conduct additional bunkering trials to support the wider adoption of these fuels on a commercial scale along the Singapore-Rotterdam green corridor.
