Stena Line reins in some carbon emissions
Stena Line, one of the largest ferry operators in the world, says it reduced carbon emissions per mt of cargo carried over a nautical mile by 11% last year compared to pre-Covid levels, and its total vessel emissions by 4%.

It points to shore power, and especially higher fleet utilisation, as measures that helped lower its emissions. A fifth of its terminals can connect vessels to shore power with renewable electricity while at berth.
Going forward Stena Line will be looking to run pilot projects with recycled methanol from steel plants to fuel its vessels. Another measure will be to use electrically powered trucks in its port operations.
The Swedish shipping line has set a target of a 30% cut in total carbon dioxide emissions by 2030.
