The project will allow ships to turn off diesel generators while in port and switch to shore power sourced from renewable sources, Stolt Tankers says.

This will help in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships and support the company’s target of cutting down emissions by 50% by 2030. The firm has identified ships to participate in this trial.

It also announced a plan to acquire three 33,600 dwt stainless steel chemical tankers. The tankers, built in Japan, are expected to enter the Stolt Tanker’s fleet during July-September.

Last year, Rotterdam’s Port Authority had announced plans to increase in shore power provision.
