Stronger traffic and fuel demand lift Singapore’s July conventional bunker sales

August 18, 2025

An uptick in vessel arrivals for bunkering, along with higher VLSFO, HSFO, and MGO sales, drove the increase in the port’s total bunker sales in July.

Changes in bunker sales from June to July:

  • Total sales up 373,000 mt to 4.76 million mt
  • VLSFO sales up 61,000 mt to 2.37 million mt
  • HSFO sales up 261,000 mt to 1.96 million mt
  • MGO sales up 53,000 mt to 420,000 mt

In July, Singapore’s sales of HSFO, MGO, and VLSFO rose by 15%, 15%, and 3%, respectively.

The Southeast Asian bunker hub bunkered 3,651 vessels during the month—249 more than the 3,402 in June, according to preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. Average daily sales edged up by around 15 mt to 1,300 mt.

However, total bunker sales for the first seven months of the year were 2% lower compared to the same period last year.

Fuel grade share of total sales in July (compared to year to date):

  • 50% VLSFO (53% YTD)
  • 41% HSFO (40% YTD)
  • 9% MGO (8% YTD)
