Methanol-ready means the ship will be equipped with a conventional fuel engine when it is delivered in 2025. The engine will be converted into a dual-fuel one in 2026 to accommodate methanol as a fuel in addition to conventional fuels, Terntank said.
The suction wind technology will further improve the ship's fuel efficiency, according to Terntank. The ship is expected to enter service in January 2027.
The project has now secured a “grant agreement” from the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency. A "grant agreement" is signed once the grant is approved, following which the project implementation can begin, the European Commission explains.
The project has also been partially funded by the EU’s Innovation Fund.
