TNPA has issued a Request for Information (RFI), inviting companies to build storage infrastructure and develop terminal facilities for import and export of grey and green hydrogen, green ammonia and green methanol in South African ports.

RFI is used to obtain information about the products, services and capabilities of potential developers of a project.

“The RFI assesses market interest in developing, designing, constructing, financing, operating, and maintaining an import and export terminal for hydrogen initiatives,” TNPA said.

The proposal covers the ports of Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London, Mossel Bay, Ngqura and Saldanha.

This initiative will further TNPA's goal of "enabling greener shipping and decarbonisation of the company’s marine fleet in order to remain globally competitive,” TNPA’s renewable energy specialist, Amanda Makgoga said.
