The two hydrogen powered ferries are expected to operate in Vestfjordstrekninga route, that connects Bodø, Røst, Værøy and Moskenes in Norway.

Designed by Norwegian Ship Design, these two vessels will utilise at least 85% green hydrogen as fuel, and are expected to curb carbon emissions on the route by 26,500 mt/year.

The AiP was provided after completion of comprehensive and constructive risk assessments, Lloyd's Register says.

The propulsion and other equipment in the ferries will be powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

Torkild Torkildsen, CEO of Torghatten Nord, said, “To develop hydrogen ferries on such a long and weather-exposed route is a world-class climate project with great importance for the entire maritime sector and not least Bodø and Lofoten.”

The ferries are expected to be delivered by October 2025.
