As part of a B10 (10% biofuel) trial, the MT Friendship sailed between Singapore and Saldanha Bay in South Africa for a two-way voyage.
The vessel is owned by Seamarine Maritime and was chartered by Japanese shipping company NYK Line to carry cargo from mining company Anglo American.
The trial comprised 10% of waste-based used cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME) blended with VLSFO.
The biofuel component of the blend can cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80% compared to conventional heavy fuel oils on a well-to-wake basis, TotalEnergies says.
The B10 blend was supplied via ship-to-ship bunkering.
