VOC Port is located on India's south-eastern coast along the East-West international shipping route.

Under the agreement, AM Green plans to develop a 1 million mt/year green ammonia production facility at the port as well as storage and bunkering infrastructure. The company has not yet disclosed a project timeline.

The partnership also covers ammonia bunkering pilots, safety guidelines and training programmes to support future fuel-handling operations.

Separately, the port authority has signed an agreement with Bureau Veritas to support safety validation and the development of green fuel bunkering practices.

VOC Port is also planning methanol bunkering infrastructure with an initial storage capacity of 750 cbm.

Growing green ammonia pipeline

AM Green has announced plans to produce up to 5 million mt/year of green ammonia by 2030, with most of the output targeted at the bunkering market. The company is already developing a 1 million mt/year green ammonia facility at Kakinada Port, which is expected to start production by 2027.

UK-based renewable energy developer Yamna plans to build a 1 million mt/year green ammonia plant near the Port of Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, with output potentially serving the marine fuel market.

Japanese conglomerate Itochu has secured exclusive long-term supply of 300,000 mt/year of green ammonia from a proposed production facility being developed by L&T Energy GreenTech at Gujarat's Port of Kandla. Itochu plans to use the fuel for bunkering, with Singapore identified as its first target market.
