The funding is a part of the sixth round of the government's Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC), the UK’s transport department said.
It will support the development of various clean initiatives in the maritime industry, including wind-assisted propulsion technologies and low- or zero-carbon fuels such as ammonia, hydrogen, and methanol.
Winning projects include ammonia-powered propulsion systems developed by Dice Marine and UK-based O.S. Energy.
Among other recipients of the funding are Turbo-Truth, working on a project to demonstrate a fully integrated renewable methanol production system.
UK-based wind propulsion firm Anemoi Marine has been awarded a part of the funding to develop folding rotor sail systems on Kamsarmax and Panamax bulk carriers.
To date, the UK government has allocated over £136 million ($182 million) in funding to 142 organisations through the CDMC initiative.
Successful projects from the previous rounds of the initiative include the shore-power installation at Port of Aberdeen, demonstration of a green hydrogen shore power system at the port of Leith, among others, the official statement read.
