The drone attack caused a fire in one of the oil production facilities, Bryansk region’s Governor Alexander Bogomaz said on the Telegram social media platform.

“Ten aircraft-type UAVs were detected and destroyed over the territory of the Bryansk region by the air defense forces of the Russian Defense Ministry,” Bogomaz said.

According to the Ukrainian army’s General Staff, the drone attack caused a "massive fire" at the oil depot.

The escalation comes amid weeks of cross-border hostilities between the two eastern European nations. This news has put upward pressure on Brent’s price as the region is known for hosting key Russian energy facilities.

The Druzhba oil pipeline, which was built during the Soviet era, transports crude from Western Siberian and Caspian fields to European markets. It passes through Russia's Bryansk region. The region is also traversed by the Baltic Pipeline System (BPS), which channels oil to the Baltic Sea.

Another Ukrainian drone struck a southern Russian port on the Azov Sea coast yesterday, Reuters reports.

Besides, the port of Taganrog in Russia’s Rostov region was hit by missiles launched from Ukraine, its Governor Yuri Slyusar confirmed on the Telegram messaging app. Fourteen cars caught fire due to the attack, Slyusar said.

Earlier this month, another Ukrainian drone hit the Atlas oil depot in the Kamensky district of Russia’s Rostov region.

In November, Ukraine fired US-made long-range missiles deep into Russian territory.

Kyiv has ramped up its airstrikes on Russian oil and energy facilities to reduce the Russian military's fuel supplies, according to oil market analysts.
