US rig count rises

The total number of rigs drilling for crude oil and natural gas in the US increased by four to 599 in the week ending 25 September, according to Baker Hughes.
The number of oil rigs increased by three units over the week to 455 and gas rigs moved one unit higher to 135, Baker Hughes reported.
There were also nine miscellaneous rigs in operation – the same as the previous week.
The total number of US oil and gas rigs was up by 50 or around 9%, compared to a year earlier.
