The offshore construction firm has conducted the bunkering via its trailing suction hopper dredger Vox Ariane, it said. These vessels are designed specially for dredging operations.

The bunkered bio-LNG, certified under ISCC-EU standards, was produced from “sustainable biobased feedstocks,” including municipal organic waste and agricultural residues, Van Oord said.

However, the company has not disclosed whether a mass balance accounting method was applied in its production.

Also known as liquefied biomethane (LBM), bio-LNG consists of approximately 99.8% methane. LNG-capable vessels can run on either pure LBM or LBM-LNG blends without any modifications.
