A subsea rock installation vessel is a specialised ship used to place rocks on the seabed for stabilising pipelines, cables, or offshore structures.
The vessels, each with a loading capacity of 35,000 mt, will be able to run on methanol and conventional fuels. They will be equipped with large battery storage system.
The first vessel is set for delivery in 2028, with the second to follow within a year.
Van Oord already operates three subsea rock installation vessels —Stornes, Nordnes, and Bravenes—and the additions will bring its fleet to five.
