Viking Line has secured enough bio-LNG to cover 50% of the fuel requirements of its LNG-fueled fleet during the first half of 2026, the company said.
The bio-LNG will be used alongside conventional LNG on
Viking Glory and Viking Grace, which operate daily passenger services between the ports of Turku and Stockholm.
"For the first half of 2026, we have secured 50 percent biogas to cover our fuel needs, and our ambition is to maintain a high level throughout the entire year," said Dani Lindberg, head of sustainability at Viking Line.
The move builds on Viking Line’s participation in Gasum’s FuelEU Maritime pooling service, under a Letter of Intent signed in late 2024, that allows the carrier to generate over-compliance credits by running its route on renewable fuel.
Viking Line is also developing a green shipping corridor on the Turku–Stockholm route in cooperation with the Ports of Stockholm and the Port of Turku, with the aim of making the corridor fully fossil-free by 2035.
