Huajing LNG Transport launches first of six LNG dual-fuel vessels

Shipping firm Huajing LNG Transport (HLT) has taken delivery of the first of six LNG dual-fuel vessels being developed for Chinese state-owned energy company CNOOC Group.

HLT is a joint venture between Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), CNOOC Gas and Power Singapore Trading & Marketing (CNOOC SG), CETS Investment Management (CETS) and CMES LNG Project 4 Company, a unit of China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES).

Built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding in China, the vessel Greenergy River is equipped with a dual-fuel engine capable of operating on conventional fuel oil as well as boil-off gas that naturally vaporises from the LNG cargo tanks during a voyage.

Greenergy River is the first of six LNG carriers that HLT will operate for CNOOC SG under the project. It is also the first China-built LNG carrier involving the Japanese shipping company to enter service under a long-term charter with a Chinese customer, according to NYK.

The vessel is scheduled to begin transporting LNG sourced by the CNOOC Group from suppliers worldwide to China from August. Ship management will be handled by OPearl LNG Ship Management, a joint venture established by NYK, CMES and CETS.
