The cruise line will enter long-term deals with these three suppliers of waste-based bio-bunker fuel to supply its vessels, and has plans to strike more of these deals in the future.
Virgin Voyages claims that its fleet can reduce life-cycle carbon emissions by 75% or more if it switches to more sustainable biofuel blends.
Biofuels are being explored by several shipping firms to lower near-term carbon emissions as these fuels can be blended with conventional fuels as drop-in fuels.
Earlier this month, Denmark-based Maersk Supply Service (MSS), a part of A.P. Moller-Maersk, said it will use biofuel across its global fleet to reduce carbon emissions.
Also this month, GoodFuels supplied biofuel blends to a cruise ship operated by US-based Holland America Line in Rotterdam.
