Zenith Energy to switch Portland oil terminal to renewables

September 26, 2022

Liquid storage terminal operator Zenith Energy will convert nearly all of its storage tanks in Portland to hold renewable fuels by 2027.

Zenith’s Portland terminal, which currently stores about 20% renewable fuel, could scale this to 96.5% renewable fuel in five years with necessary permit approvals.

The remaining 3.5% will be aviation and gasoline, which Zenith says cannot yet be converted to renewables.

According to Grady Reamer, vice president of Zenith's west US operations, the proposal is compatible with the City’s land use regulations and 2035 Comprehensive Plan.

Earlier this year, Zenith announced it would annually offset carbon emissions at both its Portland and Long Beach terminals by purchasing carbon offsets.

Last year, it announced a nearly three-fold increase in the amount of low-carbon, renewable diesel to be handled and stored at the Portland facility.
