Oil supermajor Shell has supplied LNG to ZIM’s 15,000 TEU dual-fuel containership, ZIM Sammy Ofer, under a 10-year LNG bunkering deal signed last year.
The Maritime Authority of Jamaica aided ZIM and Shell in delivering the stem.
ZIM Sammy Ofer is the first in the series of 10 containerships that ZIM plans to deploy on its ZIM Container Service Pacific (ZCP) trade line. Shell will supply LNG stems to all of these containerships as part of the deal.
“Decarbonization of the shipping industry is critical and, being readily available today, LNG is a key part of the transition to lower-carbon marine fuels,” Maritime Authority of Jamaica’s director general Peter Brady says.
