October 15, 2026

French shipping company CMA CGM has partnered with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Singapore LNG (SLNG) to explore the supply of liquefied biomethane (LBM) as a bunker fuel in Singapore.

Energy company Shell recently imported mass-balanced LBM into Singapore through its local subsidiary, Shell Singapore.

“The ISCC EU-certified biomethane was sourced from the USA and mass-balanced via the pipeline to a liquefaction plant, into a conventional LNG cargo supplied by Shell for delivery to Singapore,” Shell explained.

The imported cargo will be stored at SLNG’s terminal in Singapore.

CMA CGM will work with MPA and SLNG on pilot projects and trials to validate the supply of LBM as a marine fuel. The French liner plans to expand its LNG dual-fuel fleet to 81 vessels by the end of this year. It expects its combined fleet of LNG- and methanol-capable vessels to reach 208 by 2030.
